There is a gap in the education market for stimulating content presented in an engaging manner that can positively impact the learning abilities of young children.  Supplementary reading material available in school or outside, offer little variety or choice, and fail to get children over the threshold of learning to read and set them on a pathway to literacy.

AZCorp will address this gap through the development and distribution of high-quality material that entertains and encourages children to read and empowers all students for life-long learning. Stimulated by superbly drawn and colourful imagery, locally set, identifiable characters and dynamic storylines, children will be presented with age-appropriate comics to cultivate an interest in reading. This will develop their reading skills whilst developing understanding of critical concepts.  The stories relate to the curriculum, especially maths and science concepts, as applied in real world situations.

With Ilm Ideas 2’s investment of approximately GBP 0.7 million, AZCorp will create a comic series of 36 graphical comic books for children in Grades 2 to 5.  Each story will be built around Sheeba (a primary school-age girl). With her friends, she will solve math and science problems while at the same time presenting a positive role model for children. The print versions, with teachers’ notes, will be supported by related content, disseminated online by PC, tablet or smartphone, and radio broadcasts.  All content will be available in and out of school across the multi-media platforms. Over the two-years, the aim is to reach 12,900 children in 200 schools and 20 non-formal centres for out of school children in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
